More of a note to myself, but could be useful if you happen to be shopping a 17-inch gaming laptop.
Below is a list of candidates and a compilation of useful information about them. Google Shopping is a handy tool I use to find the best prices on the internet. Google Shopping doesn’t index Amazon prices, hence a separate link for Amazon.
On a side note, I haven’t found a good website for comparing laptop specifications. Such a tool should
- collect accurate information about each laptop and reorganize into a standardized format.
- have an intuitive interface for comparing specifications side-by-side.
Review sites such as notebookcheck.net are in the best positions to do this, but no one has implemented this as far as I know. If you have a go-to website for comparing laptops, please leave a comment.

Background
I’m in the market for a 17-inch laptop with quad-core Intel i7. Graphics performance is not particularly important for me. An ideal choice would consist of a 17-inch, 1080p or 2160p IPS display, a 45W Kaby Lake, solid construction, solid cooling performance and lightweight. Unfortunately few such products exist. Most products with quad-core CPUs are also gaming-oriented. Given my needs, I’d rather give up graphics performance in favor of portability (at least in terms of weight), but apparently such a market is small.
In terms of priorities: quad-core i7 + 17.3″ 1080p/2160p (must-haves)>build quality>cooling>GPU
